California accident results in teen's death

A 26-year-old man allegedly caused a three-car crash in Manteca on Sep. 13, resulting in the critical injury of a 45-year-old woman and the death of her granddaughter. The vehicles were traveling on Highway 120 near Main Street when the man's Dodge Caravan reportedly rear-ended a Mercury Grand Marquis which then struck a Lexus. According to California Highway Patrol, the Dodge driver was traveling at an unsafe speed as surrounding traffic was slowing down.

Family members say the grandmother and granddaughter had just attended a baby shower before the car accident. The collisions caused the Mercury to catch fire, and the 16-year-old high school student died at the scene. The injured woman was airlifted to a Sacramento medical center. The Dodge driver and his passenger both had minor injuries, according to reports.

The 29-year-old woman driving the Lexus also suffered minor harm, and a child passenger from Stockton was hospitalized with moderate injuries. At the time of early reports, CHP authorities believed that alcohol did not contribute to the auto accident but are conducting an ongoing investigation into the incident.

The loss of a life not only causes financial strain and suffering for the family, but also deprives the deceased individual of any future endeavors. Filing a wrongful death claim may help the family seek closure and cope with expenses.

An attorney may be helpful in gathering credible documentation and first-hand testimony proving that a driver demonstrated a degree of negligence directly resulting in the accident and a loved one's death. Negligence may come in multiple forms including recklessness or distracted driving.
