Alleged drunk-driving accident inflicts grave damage

Reportedly, a Sept. 28 accident near Reedley left one man dead and four other people with injuries. According to the California Highway Patrol, the driver of one of the vehicles involved in the crash seemed to be highly intoxicated.

The accident occurred at about 9 p.m. at the intersection of Englehart and Dinuba avenues. Police said that a GMC Sierra pickup truck was traveling north when it approached the intersection and failed to halt at a stop sign, its 24-year-old driver traveling through the intersection and striking the driver's side of a westbound Nissan Altima. The impact of the collision caused the pickup truck to flip over. A 30-year-old passenger in the Sierra was thrown from the truck and died at the accident scene, reportedly.

A 22-year-old passenger in the Altima reportedly suffered a broken neck and was paralyzed as a result. According to authorities, a 16-year-old passenger in the car suffered lacerations and moderate internal injuries. The 23-year-old driver of the Altima suffered moderate facial lacerations. A 20-year-old man in the car suffered minor injuries. The occupants in the Altima were all wearing seat belts at the time of the crash, reportedly.

California Highway Patrol officers arrested the 24-year-old driver of the pickup truck. He suffered moderate facial lacerations in the accident, authorities reported.
