California multi-vehicle accident kills 2 and injures 4

A multi-vehicle accident in Sunol on Jan. 4 resulted in the death of two individuals and injured four others. Drug or alcohol use is not suspected as the cause of the crash, according to a state police representative. An investigation into the cause of the accident is ongoing at this time.

The car accident occurred just after 6:15 p.m. on Highway 84 when a westbound Toyota Corolla attempted to make a left onto Vallecitos Road, but the driver turned into the path of a BMW. The impact forced the BMW into the eastbound lane where it struck an Infiniti SUV head-on.

The Toyota driver, 50, suffered serious injuries, and he was taken via helicopter to Eden Medical Center where he was later listed in stable condition on Jan. 5. Two people in one of the cars died at the scene. The Infiniti's 71-year-old driver and two female passengers were transported to the hospital and treated for injuries that were described as minor.

Drivers are held to a duty of care while on the road to drive responsibly and not cause harm to others. When a driver makes a left turn without taking into account oncoming traffic, the resulting wreck could critically injure all those involved.

The unexpected loss of a loved one in an accident may overwhelm a family emotionally, and they could also face financial repercussions such as a diminished household income and the sudden expenses to arrange a funeral and burial. An attorney may assist by reviewing accident reports to help the family in filing a wrongful death suit to recover these damages.
