Taxi accident kills 1 and injures 2

The California Highway Patrol has released relevant information pertaining to a fatal taxi accident in Fairfield. The wreck happened at 1 a.m. on March 16.

The fatality occurred at the intersection of Interstates 680 and 80. It does not appear to have involved any vehicles besides a 2006 Ford Crown Victoria that was in service as a taxi. A 52-year-old man from San Jose was driving the Ford around the interchange from I-680 North to I-80 East when he lost control for unknown reasons and went off the right side of the road. The vehicle went into the air, turned over and fell onto Central Way.

Three men were inside the taxi at the time of the accident, and they were all wearing seat belts. Both the driver and the 51-year-old man in the left-hand rear seat suffered injuries that required treatment at Fairfield's NorthBay Medical Center. The man sitting in the right rear seat received fatal wounds in the accident. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 1:33 a.m. by the firefighters. No criminal charges have been filed by the California Highway Patrol in this accident.

Individuals who were hurt in an accident that was not their fault, such as the passengers in a taxi that has crashed, may pursue compensation for their medical expenses and other assorted damages related to the incident. The driver of a taxi and the company that operated it may both be found to bear responsibility. The injured party may choose to seek the advice of an attorney who might help file a personal injury lawsuit.
