California crash leaves 1 dead, 2 in critical condition

Around 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 12, at the intersection of Orange Avenue and Somerset Boulevard, a five-car collision left one person dead and two critically injured. The accident is thought to be the result of street racing. Two Chevrolet trucks were traveling northbound on Orange Avenue. One cleared the intersection, but the second collided with a 2004 Ford pickup truck.

One person in the Ford truck died after being transported to the hospital. Five other people were taken to the hospital, two of them in critical condition.

The driver of the Chevrolet involved in the crash was taken into custody. The other Chevrolet pickup, a black two-door, left the scene and is being sought by local authorities.

In a situation where someone is seriously injured or dies as a result of another person's negligence, family members of the victims may want to consider filing a wrongful death or personal injury claim. These types of claims are filed in the civil court, independent of any criminal charges or convictions. A claim for personal injury or wrongful death is intended to compensate the family members for their emotion and financial losses. A judge will consider the victim's potential earnings, their role in the family, the number of dependents they supported, any expenses incurred as a result of the accident and any other factors deemed relevant. It may be a good idea to consult an attorney who is familiar with wrongful death and personal injury claims. An attorney may be a source of advice in order to determine the best course of action specific to a particular situation.
