Head-on collision injures 2 drivers

California Highway Patrol confirmed that two drivers were injured in a head-on collision that took place along State Route 76 on Dec. 8. The two-car crash happened around 6:50 a.m. in San Diego. Following the collision, authorities were forced to shut down the highway near the accident scene for almost an hour and a half.

The car accident took place when a 54-year-old woman driving a 1986 Ford Ranger crossed into oncoming traffic near Gird Road. While traveling westbound, the woman drifted into the eastbound lane and struck an eastbound 2001 Nissan Frontier head-on. A 64-year-old man from Dana Point was driving the Nissan.

Emergency medical personnel freed both of the drivers from the wreckage and transported them to Palomar Medical Center. The female driver suffered several facial fractures, and the male driver's legs were broken. Although investigators were not initially aware of what caused the collision, they did say that drugs and alcohol were not factors. It is unclear if any criminal charges are expected to be filed as a result of the crash.
