1 motorcyclist dead after Highway 84 head-on crash

According to a spokesperson for the California Highway Patrol, just before 3 p.m. on Feb. 14, a fatal accident occurred in San Mateo County. A 40-year-old motorcyclist was killed in the wreck, which happened on a curve in Highway 84. Reports say that an eastbound 2003 Chevrolet Impala collided head-on into the westbound 2002 Honda motorcycle, hurling the man off the bike. Officials reported that the motorcyclist died at the scene.

At the time of the accident, the 22-year-old male driver of the Impala, who is a resident of Redwood City, was allegedly under the influence of alcohol and maybe drugs. He was seen by medical personnel at a local area hospital before officers arrested and booked him into the county jail. The man may be facing felony DUI and vehicular manslaughter charges.

Two male passengers in the Impala were not injured in the wreck. However, a 17-year-old was examined at Stanford Medical Center as a precautionary measure. Portions of the road were closed during the accident investigation until about 7 p.m. that evening, and the CHP requested any possible witnesses to the accident to contact their office.

When motorcycle accidents occur, there are often critical and life-threatening injuries suffered. If someone dies because of a negligent driver or a drunk driver, there may be cause for the family members of the deceased to seek compensation for their loss. A personal injury attorney could look at accident investigation reports and advise families whether a wrongful death lawsuit might be in order, or that attorney may help negotiate settlements with the relevant parties.
