Passenger sought in accident that killed 2 men
A California man who had recently begun a job as a Lyft driver was killed in an accident at about 7:50 a.m., along with his passenger, when the vehicle was struck by a Nissan that ran a stop sign. According to police, they are looking for a young person running from the accident scene who was videotaped by a bystander who witnessed the crash.
New truck driver regulations delayed
The publication of new trucking regulations for truck drivers in California and around the country has been delayed. One would create a database of truck drivers who refused or failed a drug test and another would require heavy trucks to have speed limiters.
April is Distracted Driving Awareness Month
According to the National Safety Council, cellphone conversations are fatally injuring people in California and across the United States, but many people are still unaware of the danger. The organization says that 53 percent of drivers believe that hands-free phone technology in vehicles is safe to use while driving, but statistics show that both hands-free and hand-held phone conversations significantly increase a motorist's chances of crashing.
California truck driver placed out of service
A California truck driver was charged with multiple offenses for operating his truck with a blood alcohol concentration of over seven times more than the legal limit for commercial drivers. The incident happened on March 21 in Illinois.
Pedestrian medians offer greater safety
California pedestrians may frequently use pedestrian crossings to get across the street. In some cases, there may also be a median. A median is simply a name for the area between two opposing traffic lanes. It may be raised or it may be designated only by markings on the pavement. The latter is known as an open median.
