Safe Driver Week scheduled for October

Many California motorists are injured or killed in accidents involving other passenger vehicles or commercial trucks. In order to help combat the problem, the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance has partnered with local law enforcement agencies to conduct Operation Safe Driver Week from Oct. 16 - 22.

During the week, law enforcement officers will conduct stepped-up enforcement activities involving problematic driving behaviors. They will watch for drivers who speed, disobey traffic control devices, cut others off and fail to wear safety belts. The joint effort comes as the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration states that 88 percent of accidents involving commercial trucks and 93 percent of accidents involving other types of motor vehicles are caused by poor driving behaviors.

Operation Safe Driver Week aims to increase driver awareness of the types of behaviors that should be avoided while also reducing the rates of injury and fatality accidents. In addition to the enforcement activities of law enforcement agencies in California and around the country, the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance will simultaneously engage in educational activities aimed at drivers. People can learn more about Safe Driver Week by contacting their local law enforcement agencies.

When a person is injured in a truck accident, he or she may want to consult with a personal injury attorney. A lawyer might analyze the case in order to determine liability. The attorney might then give an honest evaluation of the case's worth. From there, the lawyer may draft the civil complaint, naming all potential defendants in the lawsuit. In this way, the attorney may be able to maximize the recovery amount for the client.
