Despite getting the highest possible safety rating from the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety, the Subaru Crosstrek has the highest rates of at-fault accidents in California and other parts of the United States. This information was gathered in an industry survey that asked vehicle owners whether their vehicle had been in an accident. The survey takers compiled a list of the top 10 vehicles for accidents and found that 9 out of 10 were imports.
The frequency of accidents varies from vehicle to vehicle as do the costs to fix damage from these accidents. When accounting for all makes and models on the road, about 13% of cars, trucks and SUVs have been involved in an accident. The highest incident rate, for the Crosstrek, was about 25%. The Subaru WRX had the highest proportion of speeding offenses. Other models that topped the list included the Acura ILX and the Lexus CT.
Even though some very safe cars are involved in more wrecks, drivers are often able to walk away without serious injuries due to the vehicle's safety features. This may mean that drivers of safer vehicles are willing to take more risks while on the road, possibly explaining the higher rate of accidents.
No matter how safe a vehicle involved in an auto accident happens to be, the victim may have the right to compensation from the responsible party. Car accidents can involve a lot of complicated factors, so it's important to gather as much evidence about the incident as possible. An attorney may evaluate this evidence and help their client determine if pursuing legal action is their best option. In many cases, a lawyer may be able to provide service without a fee until they get results.
