Passenger sought in accident that killed 2 men

A California man who had recently begun a job as a Lyft driver was killed in an accident at about 7:50 a.m., along with his passenger, when the vehicle was struck by a Nissan that ran a stop sign. According to police, they are looking for a young person running from the accident scene who was videotaped by a bystander who witnessed the crash.

The hit-and-run accident occurred as the Sentra that carried the Lyft driver, a 62-year old man, and his passenger, a Stockton resident who previously owned a local store that sold comic books, was struck by an Altima that had been reported as stolen. Allegedly, the occupants of the Altima were two minors. At the time of the accident, the Sentra was on Lodi Avenue traveling east when the driver of the Altima, traveling north on Pleasant Avenue, drove through a stop sign and caused the accident.

Another minor, who spotted a young man running away from the area of the accident, used her cellphone to videotape him. She identified the young man as an occupant in the vehicle that caused the accident, and police are using this information to try and identify the individual. The driver who caused the accident also ran but was arrested by police and faces multiple charges including DUI, vehicular manslaughter and having a stolen firearm in his possession.

The surviving family members of a person who has been killed in a car crash often face significant financial burdens, both immediate and long-lasting. If it can be demonstrated that the fatality was the result of a negligent driver, legal assistance might be advisable in seeking compensation for those losses through a wrongful death lawsuit.
