Man killed in 3-car collision in California

Law enforcement authorities report that a 41-year-old Vacaville man was killed in a three-car collision that happened near Healdsburg. The accident happened on Aug. 10 at around 10 a.m. on Alexander Valley Road in Sonoma County.

According to law enforcement officials with the California Highway Patrol, the man was driving a Honda Accord the wrong way in the westbound lane. A 2012 Kia was being driven by a 41-year-old woman west in the westbound lane behind a 2012 GMC Yukon being driven by a man from Indiana.

The Yukon's driver swerved to avoid the Honda but was reportedly unable to completely do so. The Yukon sideswiped the 41-year-old man's car, which caused the Accord to spin out of control and crash head-on into the Kia. The force of the collision killed the Honda's driver. Emergency medical responders transported the 41-year-old woman who was driving the Kia to the hospital for treatment of her injuries. All three vehicles reportedly suffered major property damage. Investigators have not ruled out the Honda driver's possible use of alcohol or drugs as a cause of the accident.

When a motorist seriously injures another person in a drunk driving accident, the injured victim may file a personal injury lawsuit. In cases such as this one in which the drunk driver is killed, injured victims may name the driver's estate as the lawsuit's defendant. Doing so may help an injured plaintiff to seek and obtain damages for the losses that were caused by the accident. A personal injury attorney might help with filing the complaint and negotiating in order to recover monetary damages in an amount that is sufficient to fully compensate the client.
